RE5
Ok I was too harsh on the demo. I still think the demo was ass but… I am really digging the game. So far I am liking the co-op a ton more than gears 2. Hopefully the rest of the game will be as good.

So I managed to get into the Quake Live beta, it’s the in browser version of Quake 3 Arena. Back in film school I used to play a ton of this game with my friends, it was awesome and is full of good memories. A few first impressions.

It does just work in your browser… you have to download a plugin but after that it is just a website. Awesome!
Runs super fast… only surprising because it’s in your browser.
Lots of options for finding matches and browsing what games are currently happening.
Stats tracked.
Dislikes:
Sometimes it’s hard to tell whats a button in the interface… The join and next game options and things like that are kinda hidden by the graphical design of the site.
Not sure that the skill matching stuff is working very good.
I suck now! Not the games fault but it’s disappointing to remember being good at something and now being terrible… that’s just aging I guess…
Drew and I finally completed Army of Two last night. This game has too many issues to get into the details, but the frosting on the cake is that they didn’t even give us an achievement for completing the game. Which is basically 360 game design heresy. After completing the game I felt like the designers were more interested in trying to make a “cool” dynamic between the main characters (also major fail here) than making the game rewarding. The best thing I can say about Army of Two is that I don’t have to play it anymore.
Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Childs Play Auction and Dinner. All together they managed to raise 200,000 dollars for sick kids, bravo! Never before have I seen that many game developers dressed so nicely, a polar opposite of GDC. The evening started with drinking, socializing, and bidding on silent auction pieces. Mostly artwork donated by various game companies. After that was dinner and a live auction. Good stuffs. And thank you to Casey of Molly Rocket for setting up the evening for us.
PS. The iPhone camera is freaking terrible.
I am really enjoying Mirrors Edge. It’s a nice breath of fresh air. I really like the visuals and music. For some reason it makes me think of Scandinavia. I don’t think I would have liked it as much if it was a third person game. I really hope this means that EA will be trying some new things, I suppose it all depends on how well the games does. Wow look at all those sentinces starting with I… Blech
After playing the demo I think this could be my favorite game of this year… Hopefully the game is even better than the demo.
When im on a roadtrip and I start getting bored I play a game with myself and the road. Every time the car goes over a shadow I flex my butt and pretend the car is hovering while I flex. I lose points if the car “drives” over a shadow. If i’m feeling really bored I designate differnt butt muscles to be the differnt tires so I can “hover” each wheel independatly and try and squeeze more points out by touching a wheel down where I could not normally.
I feel like I should be excited for this game… But im not. I think the reason is that I spend all day being creative, making art, and designing levels. I don’t really want to do it again for somebody else. Little Big Planet would be a game I would love to make but not really play. It does look really neat tho.
I am so done with them… At this point they are all the same and I could not be more un-interested. It was fun for a bit, but now I am stuck with a huge pile of stupid looking plastic instruments. There is only so long I can click a button when something hits something else.
This is one of my more creative machines… It totally does not beat the level but its pretty funny anyways.
So Burnout screwed me… Corrupted my save game. And I had put a bunch of time into it. Tomorrow my burnout disc will pay for this…
I can finally stop playing this game… I got the last achievement tonight! Yay! Now for some more burnout.
There are times when I am out and about where other humans present me with an almost irresistible reason to punch them in the face… Today was one such occurrence.
I was in the local Gamestop looking for quake wars on 360. Next to me was a woman and her probably 8-10 year old son. Ok that’s cool mom supporting her child’s interests. They browse around for a minute and the kid cant really decide but the mother is filled with patience so no biggie. After awhile the kid gets interested in Bioshock. Hmmm I say to myself fantastic game but I’m pretty sure a small child should not be playing that game, it’s fairly violent and graphic. So I hang around to see what the mother says about it. Then she has the child read the parental warnings. Ok I think here is where the poor kid hits the parenthood wall. So anyways in his small little kid voice he reads… Rated M for mature, Graphic violence, blood, gore…. then he pauses. Nothing… Nothing at all from the mother. She doesn’t bat an eye. Then the kid finishes… Some sexual content. The mother then jumps into action, grabs the game from him and puts it back on the shelf saying, no sex stuff…. NO SEX STUFF. So at this point I am about to explode… This woman has no problem exposing her child to some pretty violent disturbing images. But… BUT! God forbid there is even one boob on there if there is a boob the whole show is off. I am dumbstruck. Don’t get me wrong I don’t think the kid should have it either. But for the love of something, how is this possible? I hate people so much. I really do.
I starting playing this again recently… Only two achievements left… Sadly one is drive 1,000 miles, which will take awhile. But I have to do it. Damn achievements.
I made some tweaks to it.
Now the Y value of the atom changes the sound it makes.
Fixed the mouse focus issue.
Added a little animation when an atom plays its sound.
Hit ESC to quit.
I have gotten to the point where I dread finding a mounted gun in a game. Cause it means that I’m about to be forced to endure a way too long headlong charge by bad guys who seemingly spawn from no-where… Please for the love of god stop putting this lame ass design into games. Please.
